All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State has
concluded plans to recover the governorship mandate given to it in the state in
the 2011 general elections through the court.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the party 's interim
chairman, Barr. Chudi Onuzo, said that APGA' s decision to initiate legal
proceedings was taken when it became evident that Gov. Rochas Okorocha, who was
elected on its platform, had fully defected to All Progressive Congress (APC).
Owelle, he said is now chairman of APC governor's forum, and
so it is now clear, and not rumor, that he has left APGA.
In the same vein, the APGA chairman gave national and state
legislators elected on the platform of the party one month ultimatum to declare
their stand for or against the party.
He said that at the expiration of the ultimatum, the party
would also commence proceedings to recall those who have defected.
Barr. Onuzo advised them to use the Christmas period to
consult their constituents and then make up their minds.
He said that people of the state were disappointed that Gov.
Okorocha, who was expected to fulfill the dreams of APGA for the people, turned
around and abandoned the party.
According to him, he was not surprised that Archbishop A. J.
V Obinna, who has become the conscience of the people, spoke out against the
governor's foibles.
He also enlisted the help of the media to the party's
struggle, adding that the APGA government in Anambra had received nothing but
praises.
The move is in keeping with the mandate of the interim
committee, headed by Sir Onuzo, which was charged with the responsibility of re
organizing the party and mobilizing members after the exit of Gov. Okorocha.
The former Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Director -
General described the political holders' defection as a "mischief"of
monumental proportion, "adding that APGA and its legal team would explore
all avenues to crub the culture of impunity.
He reminded the honorable members that such act was
dishonourable.
On the EFCC clearance of impeached deputy governor of the
state, Sir Jude Agbaso, he demanded apology from the members of the Imo House
of Assembly Committee that investigated Agbaso, saying that the whole episode
smacked of a calculated attempt to nail an innocent man.
According to him, the former deputy governor has right to
seek legal redress and question the process of the impeachment.
He pointed out that the law prescribes punishment for those
who accuse others falsely.
He disclosed that, the party would soon embark on a
sensitization tour of local government areas in the state.
Barr. Onuzo expressed misgivings at the treatment of the
Agbaso story by the state - owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) and urged
the state's commissioner for information to compel IBC to accommodate other
shades of opinion.
